The Piton de la Fournaise (Furnace Peak)


The Piton de la Fournaise (Furnace Peak) is situated in the south-west of Reunion Island at 2077 m. This volcano is a volcano of effusive type that is to say the lava flows out. The last eruption took place on Thursday 5th November 2009 at about 9.50 p.m. and on Saturday 2nd January 2010 at 4.00 p.m.(1.00 p.m. in mother country). The access to the volcano has been closed and forbidden. The police has evacuated the walkers by helicopter.
